El Cerrito/ Berkeley
Every 2nd Sunday! Dance 3:30-5:30 Potluck 5:30!
Hillside Community Church, 1422 Navellier Street El Cerrito

We dance on the second Sundays of every month at the Hillside Community Church, 1422 Navellier Street, about half a mile up the hill from San Pablo Avenue ( Map and Directions below). We dance from 3:30 to 5:30 and have a lovely potluck dinner at 5:30. Our group is dedicated to the proposition that everyone can Dance! If you need to avoid the lively ones, watch and enjoy! There will always be a gentle simple dance coming up!
We have regrouped after pandemic disruptions to real life gatherings. In addition to the global changes, more locally, we are adjusting to the retirement of John and Marina Bear, who have moved to Portland Oregon to be closer to family. They were the heartbeat of our community for decades. A group of Circle Dance teachers from all over Northern California have banded together to keep the beloved El Cerrito “Mothership” growing and thriving.
We’re a friendly group with a world encompassing spiritual bent, very welcoming to newcomers and with a “no mistakes just variations” acceptance of the learning process. Our group is dedicated to the proposition that everyone can Dance! We're used to adjusting handholds, no turning, and what to do if skipping just isn't possible. Just be safe and have fun. If you need to avoid the lively ones, watch and enjoy! There will always be a gentle dance coming up!
We have had children of about 8 or 9 and older join in much of the dancing. You’re the best judge of whether your child would be able to follow and participate
We dance outdoors in good weather and indoors the dance floor is excellent. Some of us dance barefoot. If you prefer shoes, wear ones that allow you to pivot and turn without stressing your knees. Wear what is comfortable. Most people just wear whatever; some like to dress up, especially in twirl worthy flowing garb.
We put out a basket to cover rent $10-$20 or whatever you can afford. Nobody is turned away for lack of funds.

By Transit - Take BART to the El Cerrito Del Norte station. Unfortunately, there are no buses to the church, By pre-arrangement, we can pick you up. It is a 20-minute uphill walk. but you're only one mile from either El Cerrito Plaza BART or Del Norte BART and there are taxis, Lyft and Uber for that last mile. Often another dancer will be glad to get you back to a BART station after the dancing. |
