MENDOCINO
We dance the Last Sunday of each month from 3 to 5, at the Mendocino Recreation Center on School Street. (use the back entrance on the East side closest to Hwy 1) No experience necessary! visitors welcome! We ask for a donation to cover rent, but no one turned away for lack of funds. To join our Email list, and keep up to date, contact [email protected]. For more information, make contact with Gwen Heckeroth, [email protected],
Once apron a time we danced our lives through. We danced to help the Sun rise, the rivers flow, and the plants grow. We danced to celebrate life's rites of passage from birth to death.
Through the dance we attuned to the rhythms of nature, and to ourselves; dancing through the seasons from dark to light to dark again. most importantly we danced together!

A Bit about the Mendocino Group
We’re a friendly group with a world encompassing spiritual bent, making our sessions a playful spiritual practice. We are very welcoming to newcomers and with a “no mistakes just variations” acceptance of the learning process. We especially love welcoming dancing travelers, and what better way to enrich a Mendocino weekend getaway than to end it with a Circle Dance afternoon?
The dance floor is excellent, and some of us dance barefoot. If you prefer shoes, wear ones that allow you to pivot and turn without stressing your knees. Wear what is comfortable. Most people just wear whatever; some like to dress up, especially in twirl worthy flowing garb. Covid is still around! Please don’t come if you are not feeling well or have been exposed. We actively support at-risk individuals or persons caring for at-risk individuals wearing masks if they would like. However, masks are not required.
We put out a basket and suggest $5-$10 or whatever you can afford. Nobody is turned away for lack of funds. We're a totally volunteer group. The money pays the rent that supports the Center.
Some of our dancers come with a partner who ends up trying our simple opening dance and eventually turning into a circle dancer. Watching the dance is fine, too. We have had children of about 8 or 9and older join in much of the dancing. You’re the best judge of whether your child would be able to follow and participate
Our group is dedicated to the proposition that everyone can Dance! one of our main teachers, Gwen, has chronic injuries and often sits out, but joins the ones she can with absolute joy. Everyone who is aging and anyone who is active has past or present injuries to attend to and joints that should not be stressed. If there's a dance that might re-injure, ask Gwen about variations (she has many), or step back and enjoy watching it. There will always be a gentle dance coming up!
